A 19-year-old Senior High School student is in critical condition after being shot during a demolition exercise at Domeabra-Danchira on Wednesday, May 6.
The incident reportedly occurred when police officers were deployed to supervise a demolition operation allegedly being carried out by a private developer in the area.
Eyewitnesses claim the officers opened fire during the exercise, leading to the student sustaining a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The victim was first rushed to FK Effah Community Hospital before being referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for emergency treatment.
Medical officials say his condition remains critical due to the severity of the injury.
Speaking to the media, family members alleged that the teenager was stepping out of his home when the shooting occurred. They claimed the police fired indiscriminately during the operation, with the bullet passing through his stomach.
The demolition exercise follows reports that a private developer, identified as Frederick Kofi Asare, had moved into Domeabra and Danchira with police protection to demolish more than 1,000 structures.
Administrator of FK Effah Community Hospital, Ibrahim Napson, confirmed the seriousness of the victim’s injuries.
Meanwhile, the head of the Nii Djan Bi Amu family of Danchira, Nii Gamu Osamanu Tackie Okai, has denied claims that the disputed land was sold to the developer.
He has appealed to the President, the Chief Justice, and security agencies to intervene in the matter.
The shooting has intensified tensions in the community, with residents demanding accountability and a full investigation into the conduct of the demolition exercise and the role of the police.
